Tasty LA : blind dates for a party of 6

Tasty Dining Network is a singles event series whose goal is to drive dating back to traditional values and move away from the on–line form of communication. The idea is to meet face to face and get to know each other the traditional way. Blind dates are organized with 3 women and 3 men in a highlighted restaurant for the evening. Blind dates can be nerve racking, Tasty LA’s answer is group dating to take the pressure off one on one dating. Feeling more relaxed and confident will boost your chances of making a connection that counts. Here is how it works…

Gold Standard: A Food Tasting Event

Too often I hear people saying that there is nothing to do in LA. Los Angeles is filled with innovative and exciting things to do and the LA Weekly's 2nd Annual The Gold Standard is one of them. The event took place on Sunday, February 28th at the Peterson Auto Museum on Wilshire Boulevard and it was all about Los Angeles Food.

Pulitzer Prize-winning restaurant critic Jonathan Gold presented 40 of the best tastes in Los Angeles.  The LA phenomenon Kogi BBQ was there at a booth and not a truck, serving up veggie tacos that were absolutely refreshing and made you forget your disappointment that the Korean short rib tacos weren't being handed out.  Kyochon twice-fried sweet-spicy chicken wings that debuted in Koreatown was dubbed "the best fried chicken" and held court on the outdoor section with Lil Dom's and Chefs Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, Food Network’s "Too Hot Tamales" Cuidad/Border Grill booth.

Doughboys is Back

Doughboys is a favorite in Los Angeles and dearly loved. We all remember how sad it was to find out that one of LA’s most beloved restaurants was closing it’s doors. Now after two years Doughboys is back!

The newly remodeled Doughboys location on Third Street opened it’s doors earlier this month. It’s under new management, but the menu is virtually the same. You can order online if you want to beat the crowds and the wait, and food delivery is now available within 3 miles.

Almost any choice you make for food is a good one at Doughboys, but we have highlighted some of our favorite dishes that we so thoroughly enjoyed during our recent visit.

Phone Recycling for a good cause: HOPE LINE by VERIZON

It is almost time for your annual Spring Cleaning and if you are anything like me, you have a grave yard of old cell phones, chargers, and accessories, tucked away in a draw somewhere. Throwing away your used equipment is no longer your only alternative and is not environmently friendly. Many major electronic stores have collection boxes that offer to recycle your used equipment for free. I am always in support of recycling, but the prospect that my no longer usable phone I am donating for recycling could be resold back to me or anyone else for that matter, at a later date, was discomforting to me. So I searched for an alternative.

Lock and Key Events

Each day more events geared towards creating a platform where single men and woman can meet and mingle, are popping up. There is speed dating, singles cruises, on-line dating, mixers, matchmakers, meet up groups, and the list goes on. However, after talking to several of my male and female peers, it seems that no matter what the platform is, the same problem still exists….Nerves! No matter how cute or handsome you are, accomplished in business, or totally confident and sure of yourself; nerves can take over the best of us. Initiating conversation with someone you find completely sexy and alluring can be extremely awkward and terrifying. Lock and Key events are designed to help alleviate that pressure by distracting your nerves with a goal, to match your lock with his key.

E Harmony : The Challenge Continues

E Harmony has been responsible for many happy marriages. I am certain we all know someone who knows someone who met his or her soul mate on E Harmony. My very own cousin met her husband through E Harmony at 33, after several failed attempts at dating the “conventional” way. However I have had some difficulty taking full advantage of the sight in the terms that I do not feel that I have been matched up with enough people who are searching for the same things out of a relationship as I am. Is there anyone out there that feels the same? If so, I’d love for you to share your experience with me.

Borracho Cantina

8570 Sunset Blvd. | West Hollywood | 11:30am-2am | (310) 289-8809.

One of the first blog entries I made was on Tony's restaurant on sunset, same owner as Cafe Primo. I was entirely dismayed when I learned Tony's was closing.... but only briefly for a quick face-lift and total concept change. Tony's is now Borracho Cantina, a Mexican inspired restaurant. Tony’s was sleek, dark, and sophisticated. Borracho Cantina is bright and vibrant, a perfect place to watch the game on any of the ten large flat screen TVs’ they have. The piano was moved out and replaced with colored lights streaming the ceiling, over sized red booths, brightly colored flags and mosaic-tiled lanterns. Overall Borracho Cantina possesses a laid back, fun, and young vibe to it, that could potentially turn Borracho Cantina into the next hot spot in Hollywood.
